Privacy Policy
This policy explains how MileVault handles your information. MileVault is provided by Wael Makhoul.
What stays on your device
MileVault has no account system and no server that holds your content. Everything you create or store in the app — your drives and their routes, the places you name, your vehicles, receipt photos and the amounts read from them, your mileage rates, and your settings — stays on your device. We cannot read any of it, and it is never uploaded to us.
There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no tracking identifiers, and no tracking of you across other apps or websites. Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
Network connections
MileVault has no server of its own and no analytics. Nothing you record is uploaded. It reaches the network in only two situations: Apple's map services are asked to turn a location into an address or to measure a route between two addresses, and a purchase or restore is checked through RevenueCat and Apple. Like any internet request, these carry technical information such as your device's IP address, which the server necessarily sees. We do not use this to build a profile of you, and none of your content is included in those requests.
What leaves your device
- Apple. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Apple's handling of the transaction is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple. Map services receive a location, or an address you type, when MileVault needs to name a place or measure a route between two addresses. Apple states these lookups are not associated with your Apple Account. Purchases are processed by Apple. See Apple's privacy policy.
- RevenueCat. An anonymous purchase identifier and whether MileVault Pro is active — never your drives, locations, receipts, or amounts. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Device permissions
The app asks for these only when you use the feature that needs them. Each is used on your device, and the resulting data is not transmitted to us.
- Location while using the app — to measure the distance of a drive so the deduction is based on real miles rather than a guess. Your location history is written to this iPhone only.
- Location always — to keep measuring a drive after the screen locks, so a drive you started never stops short. MileVault does not start a drive from movement alone — a drive begins only when your car's Bluetooth or CarPlay connects, or when you tap Start.
- Motion & Fitness — to tell driving apart from walking, so a drive ends when you have parked and started walking rather than running on while you shop.
- Face ID — to lock MileVault so only you can open your drives and tax records. Face ID data itself never leaves Apple's secure hardware and is never seen by MileVault.
- Local network — to show your drives in a web browser on a computer on the same Wi-Fi. Your iPhone serves the page directly to that computer; nothing is uploaded to the internet, and the page is protected by a code shown on your iPhone.
- Camera — to photograph a receipt for parking, tolls, fuel, or repairs. The photo is read on this iPhone and stays on it.
- Photos — to choose an existing photo of a receipt. MileVault reads only the photo you pick.
- Add to Photos — to save a copy of a receipt photo back to your library if you ask for one. This is save-only — it grants no ability to read your library.
Your drives stay on your iPhone
There is no MileVault account and no MileVault server. Every drive, route, place, vehicle, receipt, and rate is stored in the app's own storage on your iPhone, protected by the device encryption that your passcode unlocks. We cannot see your data, cannot recover it, and cannot hand it to anyone — because we never receive it.
Deleting the app deletes the data with it. Export or back up first if you want to keep it.
Looking up addresses and routes
Two features need Apple's map services. Naming a place sends that location to Apple to find an address, and adding a drive as “from A to B” sends the addresses you typed to Apple to measure the route. This is the standard iOS mapping service; Apple states these lookups are not associated with your Apple Account.
Recording a drive normally does not use it. If you never name a place and never enter a route by address, MileVault performs no lookups at all.
The browser view on your Wi-Fi
MileVault can serve your drives to a web browser on a computer on the same Wi-Fi network, so you can review and export on a bigger screen. Your iPhone is the server. The page never travels over the internet and is never seen by us.
Each session generates a fresh code shown on your iPhone, which must be entered in the browser before anything is served. The server runs only while MileVault is open in the foreground and shuts down the moment you leave the app.
Encrypted backups
A backup file is encrypted with a passphrase you choose, on your iPhone, before it is written. We never receive the file or the passphrase.
The passphrase cannot be recovered or reset. There is no backdoor and no support route that can open a backup for you. If you lose it, that backup is permanently unreadable.
On-device intelligence
On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, MileVault can use Apple's on-device model to help sort drives and read receipts. It runs on your iPhone. The text and images involved are not sent to us or to any AI provider.
Keeping and deleting your information
Because everything lives on your device, you control it. Deleting an item in the app removes it, and deleting the app removes everything MileVault stored. There is no account for us to delete and no request you need to send us. A purchase belongs to your Apple Account and is not affected by deleting the app; you can restore it later.
Children
MileVault is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
